Summer Reading Program 2024

Adventure Begins at your library Coming soon June 1 – July 31, 2024

Welcome to the Summer Reading Program! It’s important to introduce children to the library at an early age as reading can increase skills, knowledge, and enjoyment of life-long learning. The summer reading program entails reading challenges and activities that can help readers earn prizes and chances to win even more. Best of all, summer reading builds better readers! Studies have shown that reading during the summer decreases the “summer slide” which occurs when students are out of school. Reading during the summer establishes healthy reading habits to continue the next school year. Plus families are encouraged to participate together! There’s a reading program for all ages, from early literacy learners and preteens to teens, and, of course, families!

Parents and young participants can fill out the registration forms at the library, or complete the form below to register for the reading program that fits you.

The Youth Department programs are open to children from birth to age 11, with special projects and programs for teens.

Families can also participate by joining the independent portion of the summer reading program.   Pre-readers or family-style readers benefit from being read to even if they can’t read – it builds pre-reading skills. And listening to others read to them counts toward their reading time.  Each child aged birth-11 will receive a coupon book to keep track of the number of books they have read, or heard, each week. Teens will be given a bingo card to complete. This promotes reading books for fun together at the library, but also independently at home.  Participants’ names will be added to a grand prize drawing for each program attended and each reading log coupon returned. There will be a separate grand prize for each age group.

For more information about this program and upcoming events in the Youth Library, contact jodi@livingstoncountylibrary.org or by calling 660-646-0563.  Important dates will also be shared on the Livingston County Library’s social media pages.

Summer Reading Program is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Missouri State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State.
