ON THE SHELVES

New books include a new non-fiction series ANIMALS THAT LIVE ON THE FARM including Horses, Cows, Goats, Sheep, and Chickens. These are written to read to young children or read independently by emerging readers. EXPLORE AND DRAW HORSES by Ann Becker joins the collection of popular drawing books, and finally the six volume set HORSING AROUND includes individual titles such as RODEO, TRAIL RIDING, SHOW JUMPING, CROSS-COUNTRY AND ENDURANCE, STEEPLECHASE AND DRESSAGE.

A terrific book,THE LITTLE DUCK HUNTER, by Lee Thomas Kjos was donated to the Children’s Library by the Grand River Area Chapter of Ducks Unlimited. A stack of the books was offered for sale at the DU booth at the Outdoor Classic event in February. When Judith Shoot, Children’s Librarian at Livingston County Library, stopped to look, Tim Reger, who was manning the booth, offered to donate a copy to the library. This outstanding book is filled with color photos of  little Labrador puppies being trained as duck hunters. There is a small amount of large print text throughout, but the pictures go beyond the words to capture the readers’ attention. This book is sure to be popular with locals of all ages and would make an outstanding addition to any home library.
